Core Platform Issues

Under a Bradley administration the City of Lorain is open for business! If you want to start a business in Lorain, I want to talk to you. If you want to expand your business in Lorain, I want to talk to you. I want to, and will, make City Hall a partner in the growth of your business.

For aspiring entrepreneurs I want to create a small business incubator that gives all those with the skills and gumption the opportunity to succeed and create their own future. I will work with local and regional partners to bring resources and capital that catalyze the development of small businesses.

Additionally, I want to create economic development incentives that encourage the redevelopment of vacant and underutilized commercial buildings. These blighted properties drive down commercial property values and make it harder to attract and retain businesses and employees in the City.

As a former Teacher, I know how hard our Teachers work and want to do everything I can to ensure that our kids are put in the best possible position to succeed. I will visit our schools, speak to our students and create mentorship and after-school programs in order to cultivate a community that values and inspires learning. I will engage the corporate community to create more partnerships that deliver pathways to meaningful, living wage careers in the skilled trades.

All of these opportunities were available to me when I was a kid growing up in Lorain and our children deserve this today! I am a product of Lorain schools and proof, that when properly equipped, our children can and will succeed. I will open communication with our schools’ leadership and communities to create a renewed environment of unity and turn a new leaf.

The housing market in Lorain is still recovering from the after effects of the great recession. While we have made progress we still have more work to do. As Mayor, I will work to drive housing development throughout all of the neighborhoods in Lorain. I will create pathways for low and moderate income residents to achieve the American dream of owning a home. I will work to aggressively use public nuisance laws to combat blight and abandonment. I want to create partnerships that expand our capacity to demolish abandoned houses and stabilize property values throughout the City, while working with our safety service forces, such as Police and Fire, to make our neighborhoods safer and a place where kids can play and communities will thrive. Together we will work to beautify our neighborhoods and improve the quality of life. We will seek ways to increase and bring more awareness to the resources for mental healthcare and our opioid epidemic.

I will work to increase transparency whenever the opportunity presents itself. To start, I will make the City’s public records request system more accessible and efficient and publish our checkbook online. I will also hire a grant writer whose sole job is to research and write grants to ensure we’re leveraging all of our resources to stretch your tax dollars further.
